The Visa Application Process

Welcome again, for something much-awaited!

As promised, I am providing a step-by-step guidance specifically for students from Pakistan on how to go about the visa application process "after" receiving an admission letter from a German university.

Students from other countries: Students from Asian and most African countries, I guess, have to follow an almost identical process. Students from Europe, Australia and USA/Canada should not have a similar visa process. Please check your local German Embassy's web site for country specific requirements.

Please read completely for your own benefit. In a few minutes, you'll be able to get a complete picture of the whats, hows and whens of the visa application process. So, let's get to the point:
  1. Finances
As soon as you receive your admission letter from a German University, you should check your available finances and the financial requirements for students from your country's German Embassy website. Most recently, it is known that you normally require an amount of around € 670 per month (as in my case in February 2011). This amount can vary on the basis of your country.

Then check for a similar amount mentioned in your documents that the university sent you with your admission letter. Normally, they should also let you know about how much you will need every month to support yourself around that university. This can vary on the basis of your University's location. The variation can be around € 30 and not more, usually.

The next thing you should note is the difference of the amount mentioned by your University and that by the German Embassy. If there is no difference, you are good to go. If there is a difference, I would suggest you to note the amount which is higher. In my case, the university sent me a letter requiring € 670 per month whereas the Embassy web site said € 650. I chose to calculate using € 670 to be safe.

Now calculate as follows: 670 x 12 = € 8040. Add € 50 as account opening charges by Deutsche Bank. So, you need to show € 8090 in your account. Arrange the oye-rows! (Euros)

  2. Passport
Check that you have a valid passport and that the validity is at least 6 months after the desired length of your required visa duration. This can also vary, please check your country's German Embassy requirements to be sure.

*** IDEALLY: you should have your finances and passport ready by the time your admission letter arrives. Passport should not be a problem and the finances you can prepare by checking the German Embassy web site. Even if the University may mention a different amount, it will give you the minimum amount you may require and that is a very good starting point! ***

  3. Bank Account
Go to your nearest Deutsche Bank branch with your valid passport and the admission letter (take the originals and one photocopy for each, with you). Tell them that you want to open a student account in Deutsche Bank. Please keep in mind here that "no" account is opened in your local branch. This account will be opened in Deutsche Bank's Hamburg, Germany branch and this is "standard" procedure for students from all over the world who belong to countries where opening a bank account in Deutsche Bank is a requirement for visa application process.

The bank staff will ask you to fill out an account opening form for students. While filling the form, in the appropriate boxes, you have to write the per month and total amounts we calculated in step 1. After this, they will verify  all your documents and your form. They will stamp all your documents and hand over everything to you. You will be given the address of Deutsche Bank Hamburg and you will be told that you have to send the completed account opening form, the passport photocopy and the admission letter photocopy to the given address. These letters will all be already stamped/verified by the bank. Before leaving, please make sure you have all the documents and that they are verified. You should also keep a copy of these verified documents for yourself for record keeping.

Now, DHL is your best friend! Go to the nearest DHL office and send the documents to the given address as instructed earlier. Students may ask DHL staff to give them a student discount on the package. You can show them your admission letter as a proof. I managed to get it in the same way.

Next thing ... be patient! Yes, it was said on a lighter note, but that's exactly what you can do now. From the date of sending your account opening request to the confirmation of your account opening, it will take a minimum of 7 to 14 days. The account opening confirmation email will be sent to you on your email address that you provided in the form. For me, the email could not get through to my Gmail address so I would suggest you to provide a Yahoo or Hotmail address to be safe. This confirmation will also be sent to the Deutsche Bank which verified your documents and to your country's German Embassy as well.

After the account confirmation, you have to deposit the calculated amount (e.g. € 8090) in this account. For this, you can choose one of the two possible options:
    i. Take the cash and send it from a International Exchange company or Western Union. It is an easy process. Just go to their office and they will guide you. They have nominal charges for this.
ii. If you or someone in your family/friends has an account in Euros, you can deposit the cash in that account and then send it via international bank transfer.
This process should take 3 working days, normally. You will get a confirmation of the deposit automatically on the same email address that you provided. There will be a pdf file attached to the email, print it out and you are ready to go to the embassy now! You do not need any official bank document, this print out is enough for the confirmation of your deposit.

  4. Visa Appointment
As soon as you get the email confirmation of your deposit, you should call your country's German Embassy and ask them for a "student visa" appointment. Now, there are two options for Pakistani students, depending on their residential address. These are:

    i. Residents of Sindh & Balochistan: You need to contact the German Consulate in Karachi for appointments and requirements. As of February 2011, the Karachi Consulate takes student visa interviews on a first-come-first-served basis for a maximum of 20 students every day. It means you do not need an appointment and can go straight to the Consulate. Some friends told me that this number has now been increased but I am not sure. If you are unlucky, you go to the embassy but there are more students than the maximum possible number. No need to worry, they will give you a time/appointment for the next day on priority. Please note: you will have to provide proof that you have been living in Sindh or Balochistan for the past one year at least, otherwise they can refuse to entertain you. Students from other provinces, please keep this in mind and do not try any gimmicks. On the other hand, if you are a resident of the Punjab or Khyber but living in Sindh or Balochistan for the past 1 year or more, as a matter of fact, then you can go to the Karachi Consulate but you will need concrete evidence to prove your claim. Contact the Karachi Consulate to check what kind of proof they want or accept.

ii. Residents of the Punjab & Khyber: My poor friends, you are in a spot of bother just like I was. You "cannot go straight to the embassy! The German Embassy in Islamabad takes only a limited amount of student visa interviews every day and you "have to take prior appointments". The appointment system has been improved now. They operate using an e-appointment system which operated directly from Berlin, Germany (NOT by the Germany Embassy in Islamabad).

Click here to go to the Visa Appointment page. Typically, you will get an appointment 3 to 4 weeks from the current data. It may vary in summer (4-8 weeks) because thats the high intake season, but 3-4 weeks is normally the earliest appointment that you can get. However, the people operating this website from Berlin do release interview dates which have been cancelled by people due to various reasons. These dates are not simultaneously updated on the website as soon as they are cancelled, but they accumulate until they decide to make them available. So if you are looking for an earlier date: "keep checking the website every day" because you never know when they might release those dates (and they do arrive in bundles - batch processing).

Here you can do something else also to save some time at least. A week after sending the account opening form, you can take an appointment from the Embassy and in the mean time your account opening confirmation should arrive and you may make the deposit. As they say, try it at your own risk! Because if you later need to re-schedule your appointment, it will again be given 3 or 4 weeks from the date you request the re-scheduling. But one thing is almost certain, if you get the account opening confirmation and initiate the bank transfer, then you should not wait for the deposit confirmation and call the Embassy for an appointment. The appointment will be at least 3 weeks from the current date and your deposit will be confirmed in 3 working days. Safe bet!

  5. Some documents for Visa Interview
Please prepare all documents listed on the German Embassy website and take them with you for your interview. Make sure that you take originals of all the required documents and at least 3 photocopies of all these documents. Check about the visa fees in advance and take that amount with you as well. You need to have a health insurance with you when you go to the embassy, valid for one month. You should inquire about the start date for this insurance when you call for the visa appointment. They will tell you to get it from a date which is around 4 weeks after your visa interview date. This is a mandatory requirement. The embassy has listed the insurance companies that it accepts, on its website. For students whose courses in Germany are taught in German language, you need to provide a German language test certificate e.g. A1. I think they accept only NUML and Goethe Institute certificates. Please check this! Students whose courses are in English, they need to provide TOEFL or IELTS certificates.

  6. Preparing for Visa Interview
Review carefully and make sure that you have all the documents that are required at the time of interview. The visa officer will review your documents may ask many questions and in some cases in Islamabad, they can be a bit rude to you as well. In particular, a Pakistani lady aged more than 50 with short hair is bound to give you a very tough, and rough time. You do not need to panic at that, just be sure and confident of yourself and everything should be fine. Be a gentleman/lady, do not get confused or irritated and reply to the point.

Now, you need some time alone to sit back, relax and think about everything you have done up till now to achieve your goal of higher education. There can be many questions, but you need to have your mind very clear about few things which I describe below. These are typical questions BUT, in my opinion, I would also ask those from you if I was taking your interview. Moreover, I think I would be able to completely judge the depth of your intentions by your response to these questions. Here, "truth" is your best friend. Be very honest, you will be rewarded.

    i. You should know why you chose Germany for your studies. Yes! After all, the world is a big place, why Germany? You should have a very clear and precise answer for this. And please, do not use answers that other people tell you. Try talking straight from the heart!

ii. You may have more than one admission letter but you can apply on the basis of only one of them. When you are deciding this, you should know the reasons of your choice, and why not! If you are a student aspiring for higher education, why do you not know the reason you chose the universities you applied to? You "must" know this. Otherwise, how and why should I believe that you know where you want to go. Think about this with a clear mind with your future in perspective. You can explain about all the universities you considered, how you got to know about them and how you picked the ones which you applied to.

iii. My next question would be, why did you choose this particular course to apply to? How does it relate to you and how do you think it will be beneficial for you/your life or career in future? Relate it to your future plans and try to figure this out. This is probably the most important question for you. You cannot provide a satisfactory answer without a goal, without a complete future path in your mind w.r.t. your previous studies and work experience.

My observation is: if you are clear about these things in your mind, then you should not have any major issues during the interview and in getting a visa approval.

  7. Miscellaneous
Please dress up elegantly. It always gives a good impression about your personality. Do not overdo it and do not be in rags, just keep it in the middle. Being on time is also a must. Your body language also reveals a lot about you, so just be calm and yourself, no fidgeting - Relax! Speak clearly, in an audible voice and with confidence. Anybody listening to you must feel that you know what you are doing and why! It is better to be to the point in your replies.
I hope that I have provided a good starting point for everybody to prepare for the Visa Application Process. The basic skeleton of this process is bound to stay the same, however, some changes may occur from time to time, as they should. I have highlighted the basic areas for everybody and you will have to dig yourselves for the "specifics". If you cannot do that, you are not welcome here in Germany and you should cancel your plans right here because you won't be able to keep up with everything here - I assure you this. Germans are a very practical nation and they like and respect similar people.

For my Pakistani fellows, here is your big chance to prove that you also belong to a learned and hospitable nation!

Viel Glück!

PS: Any comments and suggestions for improvement are welcome. Errors are regretted and corrections encouraged. Feedback increases my motivation. Thanks.

  7. Hello there,
1st of all thank you for such Nice Information. Now I have some issues going on with my study visa. I had My appointment at German Embassy on August 1, 2012 for submitting papers and all formalities. They called me again on 9th of august to appear at embassy for finger prints. I had gotten admission In international Master Program in TUB Berlin. I had my all papers completed. I know that student usually get visa within 4 weeks exactly. because many of my colleagues and junior or senior session fellows have gone there for studies. Now Its been almost 6 months till the end of January 2013. But I have no clue about status of my visa. My university had extended deadlines for registration at university and to join classes 3 times. but unfortunately i still have no clue about my visa until now. I have called them several times, emailed them and also wrote letter to embassy with my signature by post mail, they tell nothing, only say that you have to wait and we don't have any clearance from Germany yet for your visa. I am so worried and i have missed admission here in Pakistan too. I have not gotten my Passport back yet from embassy.

Is there anybody who can give me some clue if somebody had to go through the same or if anybody could tell me that what could be the reason or problem of my visa delaying.

    3. Bhaio...there are always such exceptions and to the best of my knowledge, such cases happen in all countries. I know about people who faced the same kind of issues in applying to US, Canada, etc. I am sorry but there is not much that can be done here.

    4. This isn't about the exceptions its mostly about the way islamabad embassy is treating Visa applicants. As far other embassy's are concerned i guess no other embassy takes 10 months in processing student Visa (almost a year) without any response to the applicant. I had experience with American Embassy twice and once they took 6 months for issuing me the Visa but they always respond to the Visa queries in very civilized way, in fact they mostly approve or decline the Visa request during the day of interview, which pretty much guarantees the Visa the further processing is only for the security clearance due to our history with US and terrorism and all that. Also most importantly almost all US universities defer the admissions to next sessions unlike many German universities. Where as i would say German embassy is the most worst embassy than any other, for example for non-scholarship cases they have stalled the applicant money in Deutch bank for many months, they give no do not respond to the the queries in any reasonable way like i explained in my previous post The University is telling me one thing about my Visa and the Islamabad embassy is telling another, they have the most inconvenient way of communication they do not even reply to emails regarding Visa inquiry you have to post a letter to which they always reply they don't know and finally they have no upper limit of Visa application duration i asked them how long can it take in the worst case, like a year, two years, three or forever at least their must be some time limit. and they replied like always "they don't know" which seemed to me the most ridiculous answer.
Sorry but i would say German embassy is by far the worst.

    6. Guys...I do not intend to start an argument, but to the best of my information such delay is not the routine despite the fact that I agree that the overall working of the embassy needs to be considerably improved.
Just for your information, in one of the universities I know to be not a big university, 9 students from Pakistan have got their visas and ALL in time. I have been dealing with queries from international students at my university and more often than not I found that the delays has more to do with some failures on the applicants' part. I do not intend to say that u are also one of them, but providing u with an honest observation. Also, to be frank, I found that students from most other countries are really focused and know what they want when they write their queries. On the other hand, my brethren from Pakistan, "sadly", mostly lack in this respect.
In any case, this blog is not for the purpose of making arguments (I am not saying that u are doing that, just mentioning). I have tried my level best to provide valuable information to aspiring students from Pakistan as a sadqa e jaria. And I would appreciate if u can provide me a critique of my blog or its contents. After all, I can only provide information to help u get through the application process. Any suggestions are also welcome.
Again, best of luck to u in whatever u are trying to do.

    7. Dear waqas:
      thanks for comprehensive information.
One thing more which i would like to ask is that, if i have a letter, stating Funding will be by the supervisor ( in case of PhD Admission ) Or if i have Secured PhD Position (Paid Job) then what i have to for bank account. will it be necessary for me to open a bank account before applying to German Embassy Pakistan.
I am going to proceed for PhD in Germany.

    8. "Please leave your name at the end of your query"

Normally, the German authorities need you to show that you are self-sufficient and will be able to pay for your living expenses in Germany. For this you can show fixed deposit in a bank account or a guarantee from a German citizen. In your case, I think you can call the embassy and ask them if you still need to make the deposit. I think they should accept the funding from the supervisor. But then it would depend on two things: 1. The amount of funding, 2. The verification of your letter.
I think there should be no problem if the funding is more than enough for your tution fees and living expenses "both", and the embassy can verify that the source of funding and the letter are genuine. But please call the embassy and explain them this situation.

    10. Hello Guys,

I am into the same situation and have been waiting for student visa since the past 90 days and looks like this issue is not limited just in Pakistan but here in India as well.., Unfortunately I missed an offer from Finland and other top notch universities expecting Visa from Germany..I guess the problem with my application maybe because i had applied for the MS in Computer Science while I already had an MBA with work experience as a soft professional for the last 3 years..Which 'typical' Germans find it unusual.

  8. Hi cap20, it would have been good if you had left your name.

Anyway, Thank You for your appreciation. I am sure u have already gotten the idea behind this blog which to provide guidance during the application process. Please let me know if there is something missing from that point of view.

Apart from that, there are always exceptions ... and special, circumstantial queries for which it is really next to impossible to write a blog. First thing I can tell u, is that u can always request for your passport to be given back regardless of the situation of your visa. Secondly, there really is nothing the embassy can or will do if they have not received a clearance from the authorities here in Germany.

Sadly, the only 2 options u are looking at are:
    1. Tell them that u voluntarily take back your visa request, OR
    2. Keep waiting!

Sorry my friend, I know it is hard luck in your case...but there is nothing else u can do unless u have some connections in the government who can at least help u get some more info.

    Good Luck in your pursuit!

  9. Hello Dear Blogger,
I really appreciate the effort that has been put to provide very detailed information about the German Visa process.
But like cap20 my case seems to be also very unfortunate, and above all its adds lots of questions and confusions due to the responses of Islamabad German Embassy.
I also applied for the german Visa and my interview was held on 1st June 2012, since then ( 8 months passed) i have got no reasonable or helpful response from the German embassy about my Visa status. The interesting thing is that in August 2012 i wrote to the University administration in Stutgart germany about my situation and after checking their local Visa Consulate they told me that my clearance to issue a visa has been sent to Islamabad german embassy and they should have issued me the Visa by now. After which i contacted the Islamabd embassy telling them about my reply from the University administration and they replied the same as always "We cannot give you any confirmation as we are still waiting for clearance from Germany" after which i again wrote to the University administration telling them about the reply from Islamabad embassy for which they were kind enough to contact their local (German) consulate about my Visa situation for which they personally(the local German connsulate in Stuttgart) contacted the Islmabad Embassy asking about my visa status and exactly what clearance they are waiting for , for which the Islambad Embassy replied to the the consulate in Stutgart that "they have withheld the visa decision on their own ". So i again wrote to islamabad embassy asking them to give me the straight reply about what is going on, now either german consulate in Stutgart is lying or either you are lying but they alsways reply with the same answer no matter what is asked "We cannot give you any confirmation as we are still waiting for clearance from Germany" which really sickens me. I have emailed them , phoned them and wrote letters to them and as yet i don't have any reasonable answer from german Islamabad embassy about my queries. They always give the same answer and now finally i don't know what they are upto what is going on with my Visa application.

    3. Yes sure you can reach me at muhammadwsf@gmail.com , just email me i'll share my contact no. there. I'm also thinking of involving other cases like us and to follow some legal proceedings against the embassy. The embassy's behaviour is intolerable, specially when you contact the visa inquiry section. They don't respond to any emails and you have to send them a letter for which they email you with single line response "We cannot give you any information we havn't received your clearance" I don't even understand what exactly that means.

    4. Yes there are few frustrating issues like that and it is a pity that u find yourselves among the small fraction of people who have to bear with this. I must also tell u that this can be helped if our government tries to focus more on helping students getting opportunities for higher education abroad. One guess is that they have a certain limit of visas to be issued to a particular country and if that is expired then they put many cases to the pending list.
In any case, I wish everyone the best with their efforts and if it is not working out here then hopefully it works out somewhere else for u.

  11. Hey Waqqas. Great article. Helps a lot.
However, i was wondering if you can help me out with a small problem i am encountering.
It is June 4th and i need an appointment at beginning of August/end of July. Since i am a resident of Punjab, i have to appear at the embassy in Islamabad. On the appointment website, all appointments are booked until September 10th. Now my classes at the University of Leipzig's MBA SEPT program starts on 30th September and if i appear for my visa interview in September then i won't be able to make it in time.
What do you suggest i do?

    Regards,
    Taimoor

  12. Dear Taimoor,
Thank u for the kind words. Well, to be honest, there is nothing really much u can do. U have 2 options:
    1. Try to have your admission deferred. This will help u to prepare for everything in time and u wont have to miss any classes because u r NOT gonna get your visa before 30th Sept. It takes a bare minimum of 4 weeks for the visa to arrive.
    2. Take the 10th Sept appointment, get an "official" letter from the university stating that even if the student is late in coming to Germany, we will allow him to start his course. Because the embassy claims processing time of 4 to 6 weeks, so u shud "ensure" that the letter u get categorically states that the uni. will allow u to sit in classes if u arrive until 24/25th October, at least....I also went through this and it worked for me. Make sure that the letter/email u get is also sent to the German embassy directly from the university as well. At the appointment, make sure u r very clear and particular that the university is flexible with your arrival date. Do mention that such delays r quite normal all around the world and universities always favor the students in such cases. At my uni, one of the students came more than 2 months after the semester had started.

REQUEST: Help your fellows, please share the link of the appointment website with me so that I can add it to this blog. It would help everyone :)

    Good luck with everything!

    1. Hi! Sorry for the late reply.
I got my appointment sorted out. Let me share some information with the prospective candidates here.
The appointment system website (for Punjab and KPK appointments only) is operated directly from Berlin, Germany. All appointments available on the website are dealt with from Berlin and not from the Islamabad German embassy. Here is the link:

      https://service2.diplo.de/rktermin/extern/choose_realmList.do?locationCode=isla&request_locale=en

Now as it happens, the summer months are the most busiest months for student visa appointments and candidates may encounter problems in securing earlier dates for an appointment. As discussed in my previous post, i had the same problem as i was getting 10th september for the interview. However, the people operating this website from Berlin do release interview dates which have been cancelled by people due to various reasons. These dates are not simultaneously updated on the website as soon as they are cancelled by the candidate, but they accumulate until the people in Berlin decide to make them available. I got lucky and got a date for July 17 instead of September 10th. So yeah have some faith and patience.

This was an issue for lots of people and after much discussion with the people at the embassy and other prospective students, we got to the bottom of it. Keep checking the website every day because you never know when they might release those dates (and they do arrive in bundles - batch processing).

  13. Dear All,

Thank you very much for sharing your experience while applying for VISA and for admission. I am one of unfortunate person. I applied last year for the student visa on 19th of July and got only the latest date (that time) as 26th September for the VISA interview. My classes were going to start in October 1st. I have completed all the stuff like blocked account payment, admission and tuition fee payment, hostel fee payment and also travel insurance from Adamjee. One of the ugliest pakistani guy i have seen in my life was the interviewer. He seems a non serious guy since he was busy with his cell phone while asking questions about visa. Initially he told me that he is not going to accept my documents since i am very very late but after requesting him he accepted my documents and I waited long for an answer then in late October I just emailed the embassy to return my passport stating that i will appear again next year. I was 34 years old at that time and one of the two reasons of rejecting my visa application is due to my age. My chosen course was very much practical which has often has some mid carrier students. The guy at the embassy also suggested me that i should apply for PHd instead of masters. HOw can someone apply for Phd if he doesn't have a masters degree away from Pakistan. The other reason was that i can't complete the education in the allocated time. Although i have obtained the one month extension letter from university but no luck what so over.

I don't why this is happening with me although i have done all the efforts to complete the application process. My passport will expire in 15 days earlier of the study time (18 months masters). I don't know whether they would have processed my VISA with these minimum days. Is it possible for a pakistani to extend or renew his passport in Germany? Anyways I have applied for a new passport today and InshaAllah will get that in 20 days but the problem is with the appointment date. I have got the appointment on 23rd August and i don't know whether 1 month and a week would be enough for VISA processing.

Do you guys have any clue to get an earlier VISA appointment date in Islamabad if they are not available? If so then please share. I am very upset about the date.

Thank you again for your views and also for the blogger who has developed this awesome blog.

  15. Hey Waqqas! Dear Effort buddy! I applied for visa at German Embassy on 20th August and in the interview I was asked what next I wanted to do and then I replied that I may continue for Ph.D. program after Masters since I applied for Masters. After two days, the embassy sent forms regarding research proposals and supervisors which I got sorted out with the help of the university. but I am really worried by reading the stories of fellow students who are languishing in waiting for months. Please pray!

  18. Can anyone tell me that the amount which is calculated can be deposited in advance or per month basis? plz help me in the finance section

    ReplyDelete
  19. It doesnt matter if you deposit in advance or whenever, the simple point is:

"when you go to take the visa interview at the embassy, you should have the COMPLETE AMOUNT already deposited in your Deutsche Bank account".

Once the deposit is completed, Deutsche Bank sends you a statement of confirmation. You need to take this statement with you to the visa interview, otherwise they will NOT entertain your application.

  20. Waqas I really appreciate your this effort of operating this blog with so much information being shared on Visa Processing. I also have two queries regarding visa if you could respond to them( or anybody on the blog):
    1) I have graduated in the field of materials science in Pakistan and am working in an organization as material engineer for the last three years. Now I wanted to do mechanical engineering and got admission in one of the universities in undergraduate B.Sc program( As they don't grant admission without previous knowledge in same master program). What do you say, being a graduate and again seeking admission in undergrade program projects some bad impression on the visa officer or what!? Any cases already in knowledge? Recommendations?
2): My appointment date is 22 August and classes are starting on 15 Sept. However, on my admission letter, (that university has sent me in an email), is mentioned that " you have to get enrolled by 15 Nov to complete the admission process otherwise you cannot start your studies". What do you suggest should I get some classes relaxation etc letter from university or should I go as it is!?

I again thank you for this sadq e jariya and guidance to so many aspirants! :)

    1. I am sorry I was not able to comment earlier, was too occupied with work.

point 1: There is no bad impression on the visa impression UNLESS you fail to prove the logic/reason behind your admission. But there is a difference, are you going to do the whole Bachelors again or just some pre-requisites? Yes there could be more questioning if you tell them that you are going to do the whole bachelors again. But if u tell them that there are only some pre-requisites that you need to complete before you can start your masters, then it should be fine. BUT AGAIN, u have to give them a convincing argument. It would also help if your admission letter says that this person is going to do the pre-requisites first and then will continue with masters.
point 2: I think you should go as it is. They will say that they need at least 3-4 weeks to process your application. According to your admission letter statement, you can tell them that even if your visa issuance is delayed by a few days, the letter clearly gives you room for that delay and in any case there will be no problem in getting enrolled if you reach the university by Nov 14 - which should not be the case because one gets a decision on the visa application, normally, within 4 weeks from the date of the interview.

      Good Luck with everything!

PS: PLEASE ALWAYS write your name at the end of your queries.

    1. Rana sahib if you want to do MBBS in Germany, first you need to be fluent in German, which is NOT possible for you even if you spend 2 years learning German.

I suggest you try some other European countries where the medium of instruction is english, e.g. eastern european countries like poland, romania, hungary, lithuania, Czech republic, etc.

      Good Luck!

  22. Hi Waqqas i really appreciate the effort you had put over here and im glad i found this blog...well i need to ask a question
im doing my BEng in Electronics from karachi and would like to apply for a Master in Engineering in a relevant program of my choice and that too which is instructed in ENGLISH MEDIUM so i would like to know in order to apply for the student visa should i need an german language test certificate as well as ielts or just ielts even though the course is fully instructed in english and has no german lagnuage requirements? plus what is the minimum gpa threshold for entering into a German University?

    ReplyDelete
  23. Hi Aftab,

Please dont mind but it feels as if u have not done your homework, or not read my blog properly/thoroughly.

You should check program/course specific requirements on the univeristy's pages. They provide answers to all such questions. Since requirements of different universities vary, so it is difficult for me to give you a definitive answer.

    However, generally:
    - No German is needed for English language courses. BUT BUT BUT: if u want to live in Germany and then later settle /work there, u will need German. So regardless of your medium of instruction, can u please start learning German from today? And do let me know why you would not like to do it?

    - How do u expect me, my friend, to tell u the minimum gpa threshold without knowing the uni and the course? Even then, how can I remember the gpa thresholds of thousands of universities by heart? PLEASE check program specific requirements on the course/university's pages.

Do take this advice with an open heart. Start researching more, a LOT more on your own...because in these countries, u need to change your mindset in order to survive.

    Good Luck with everything!

    1. Thank You Waqqas and also to let you know that I did read it thoroughly, i was just confirming it and yes i have been learning german for quite a while now since my visit to Germany last year but not that rigorously so thanks once again for your advices and i will surely act upon it :)

    2. I am happy to see that u took my words in a positive way. My expectation is that students should come up with specific questions rather than generic ones. They should know how to get their required information, as much as possible on their own. Still, I try to provide information while at the same time telling everyone to do more and more on their own.

If u are learning German, then do not forget to mention it to your visa interview officer. Tell him that even though it is not a requirement, but u have made it a goal for yourself that you will learn German and so u r doing it.

Again...change in approach is needed....from reactive, to proactive :) The more u act upon it, the More success u'll achieve. And my goal for the blog, and writing to aspirants like u, is to ENSURE that my brothers, as Pakistanis, do well, rather, Very Well !
...that's why I also write some 'not so soft' words :) doesnt mean that i dont wish anyone well.

      Good Luck again!

    3. Thanks all guy it is so nice and please tell me .that i have received admission letter from university through email and i get out print of that admission letter so can i apply for visa on that letter or original letter issued by university is necessary...reply quickly cuz i am waiting. Thanks again..have a great time,,..

    4. If the letter is on official university letter head, and if the university can verify it if the embassy checks, so it is valid and you can go ahead. But you can ask this question to your university. There could always be exceptions. Best way is to put the same query to the admissions officer. If his response is in the affirmative, then go ahead with the email letter. But then also attach the admissions officer's response so that the embassy can know that you have done your homework ;)

    1. If you do not know which university is good for you then you are not ready to pursue higher education. Please do your research, the internet is there for you. You should know what is your interest and search accordingly. If you find something suitable and have a question about that, then I can help you further.

Dear Waqqas Bhai, I am faced with a confusion, I am not sure, If I am required to either present a blocked bank account or a 6 months bank statement, are these two different option from which one has to choose either ? or both are required ? As time is short it's impossible for me to present a 6 months bank statement.
I am admitted to 2 years postgraduate course.
Another confusion is that a consultant told me, If I would deposit 2 years expenses rather than 1 year expenses in the blocked bank account then I won't need to hand in a 6 months bank statement, But right now I only have enough funds for 1 year expenses, which I can deposit in the blocked bank account.
Though I can produce source of funds.

Kindly guide me on this issue as soon as possible
    Best regards

    1. Dear Waseem,

The only requirement that I know of is to present a blocked bank account in Deutsche Bank. The bank account should have sufficient amount that you will need to cover your living expenses. You will need to deposit a minimum deposit enough to cover 1 year´s living expenses. This should be something like 8000 to 8500 Euros (rough estimate).

I hope this helps. Good luck! :)
