Welcome everyone,
I have observed that many students, Pakistani in particular, have some difficulty in finding information related to Higher Education in Germany. Sometimes I see questions posted on forums e.g. Yahoo groups which are very basic. I thought it would be very useful if one can make the basic information available to everyone in a blog.
I am starting with the very basics but later on I intend to provide advanced information as well. My next planned step would be guidance in visa application, similarly in points form. I will try to improve everything based on feedback. Therefore, please feel free to ask questions and suggest improvements.
Here is how anyone from anywhere in the world can start with their search for information about where and how to apply in Germany for higher studies:
- Go to www.daad.de.
- Click on "Information for Foreigners".
- On the left side of the page, it says "Study and Research in Germany". Below this, go to "Course Search" and in the list that appear next to Course Search, click on "International Programs".
- Now you can select, according to your preferences, the Education Level, Field of Study and a Subject.
- Then click "Show Programs".
- Now you will be displayed a list of all available courses in German universities according to your selection. The links and other related information will be mentioned there.
- Check the list and find programs you like. Then you can click on those programs to go to their sites and find out more information about them.
What I would advise here is to make a table in Excel about the programs you like and write down their links, location, ranking, requirements, deadlines etc. and then take it from there on!
Good Luck! Or, as they say in Germany, Viel Glück!
May peace be on you all,
ReplyDeletethis is a really good effort to spread awareness about the academic oppertunities present in Germany.
I would like to add that one must have all the pre-requisites fullfilled before application submission to DAAD or anyother scholarship program and these pre-requisites may take quite a good time. For example, writing research proposal, motivation letter, cover letter for getting acceptance, etc. I would emphasise that one should give him/herself enough time for preparing these (esp. geniune) as they count alot towards winning a scholarship along with your academic achievements.
May peace be on you all,
ReplyDeleteAs most of HEC-DAAD scholarship holders have affiliation with some educational institute back in Pakistan (like lecturers or assistant prof, etc.), I would like to encourage them all to help students from their universities to get research stipend (or at least give them information) for their bachelor's or master's thesis from German institute. For example, my university has collabration with Egyption and Indian univesities and students from these universities come here for internships, bachelor's thesis or master's thesis. In this way, i think, more and more students from Pakistan will get oppertunities to research/study in international atmosphere.
Very valid comments! Here it will be hard to go into detail w.r.t every step and then there are different requirements at different universities. So, once you find your required course, check the requirements and plan accordingly!
